What would cause a spark plug not to fire?

A spark plug won't fire properly if its electrodes have been worn thin, if they are covered with combustion deposits or if they're wet. If the plug has seen many hours of service, the electrodes may just be worn out, and replacing the plug will restore normal engine operation.
What happens if a spark plug does not fire?
Failing spark plugs can cause the car engine to misfire and thus affect its performance. A single spark plug that fails to ignite the fuel-air mixture can cause a halt in the running of the engine. It can result in incomplete combustion and damage to the catalytic converter of the car. What can cause spark plugs to not spark?
Loss of spark is caused by anything that prevents coil voltage from jumping the electrode gap at the end of the spark plug. This includes worn, fouled or damaged spark plugs, bad plug wires or a cracked distributor cap.How do I fix no spark?
If you do not see a spark, there is an ignition problem. Remove a plug wire and insert an old spark plug or a spark plug tester into the end of the wire (the plug boot). Place the spark plug on a metal surface on the engine, or ground the spark plug tester to the engine. Then crank the engine to check for a spark. What if my ignition coil has power but no spark?
There are a few reasons for no spark, new coil pack could be defective, crank sensor, ignition module or bad wire in primary circuit, faulty ECM/PCM. You may have to have a good technician have a look, diagnose and estimate repair.Spark plug is not working what is wrong
What sensor would cause no spark?
A Bad Crankshaft Position SensorThe crankshaft position sensor monitors the position and rotational speeds of the crankshaft. Without the crank sensor, the engine control module (ECM) wouldn't know when to fire the fuel injectors and ignite the spark plugs.
What stops a coil from firing?
A bad coil or a cracked distributor cap can stop the spark plugs from firing. Why would a cylinder not fire?
Each cylinder has an ignition coil pack (or coil packs that serve two cylinders) that sends electricity to the spark plug that then ignites the air-fuel mixture. These, too, can fail, and the wires that connect them can wear out. If there's no electricity, there won't be a spark. Vacuum leaks can also be the problem. What gives power to the ignition coil?
The battery provides low voltage electricity to the ignition coil. The ignition coil converts the low voltage electricity into high voltage power in timed pulses. The distributor has a shaft that gets spun by the camshaft. Why is my engine turning over but not starting?
Clogged Fuel InjectorsIf the car cranks when you turn the key, but the engine won't start, it could be because fuel isn't getting to the engine. One potential reason for this could be dirty fuel injectors. Over time, the fuel injector nozzles can become clogged with rust, corrosion or debris.
How can you tell if a rotor button is bad?
Common signs include engine misfires, car not starting, the Check Engine Light coming on, and excessive or unusual engine noises. What causes a dead cylinder in an engine?
Bad, damaged, or worn spark plugs will cause the ignition coil to weaken, resulting in a cylinder misfiring. A clogged fuel injector will keep gasoline from mixing a good balance with the air/fuel mixture, resulting in a cylinder misfiring in the engine. How do I know if my ignition coil is getting power?
Locate the positive or power wire attached to the engine coil.
- If this wire has no power, then your ignition coil is not receiving current. ...
- If this wire has power, then the wiring from the ignition switch to the coil is working properly and you can move on.
