As per the Factories Act 1948, every adult (a person who has completed 18 years of age) cannot work for more than 48 hours in a week and not more than 9 hours in a day. According to Section 51 of the Act, the spread over should not exceed 10-1/2 hours.
Do you have to have 8 hours between work shifts?
Though California does not have any laws regarding time between shifts, it does have laws requiring employers to pay overtime for hours worked beyond the standard eight-hour workday. However, if an employee puts in over eight hours in a given day, he or she may be entitled to overtime pay.
What are the legal working hours per day?
You shouldn’t have to work more than an average of 8 hours in each 24-hour period, averaged out over 17 weeks. You can work more than 8 hours a day as long as the average over 17 weeks is no more than 8. Your employer can’t ask you to opt out of this limit.

What are the rules for overtime and hours of work?
