Your wheel offset is the distance from where you mount your wheel to the wheel's center. The centerline is the literal “center” of the width of your wheel. This centerline is also known as a 0 mm offset. That's important to note because your wheel offset is always measured in millimeters.
Do OEM wheels have offset?
Most OEM wheels, and most wheels in general, will have a positive offset. Negative offset means the mounting plate is on the other side of the wheel's centerline, farther toward the suspension. Negative offset is generally seen in very deep-dish or deep convex aftermarket wheels. What is the offset of my rim?
The offset of a wheel is what locates the tyre and wheel/rim assembly in relation to the suspension. More specifically, it's the measured distance between the mounting pad (the mounting surface of the wheel) and the center line of the rim. Sometimes It's used interchangeably with the term "backspace".What is wheel offset 40?
+40 offset means that the mounting point of your wheel is 40 mm away from the centerline, towards the street side. Most vehicles come with a factory offset of about +12 to +20. In this case, assuming that your original offset was zero, if you switch to a +40 offset rim, your wheel will be tucked in by 40 mm.How do you know what Offset to get?
Subtract the smaller number from the larger number. That gives you the offset of the wheel. If the centerline number is smaller than the hub measurement, offset is positive. What is Wheel Offset and Backspacing? ? Simplest Explanation Ever!
How do you know if Offset will fit?
Put simply, to find if your wheels will fit your car, measure the distance from your wheel's center point to where it is mounted. This is the offset. Add that to half your wheel's width to find the back space and subtract it to find the front space. Compare this to your wheel well to see if it fits.Is positive Offset in or out?
Positive wheel offset is when the hub mounting surface is in front (more toward the street side) of the centerline of the wheel. Most wheels on front-wheel drive cars and newer rear-drive vehicles have positive offset. Negative offset is when the hub mounting surface is behind the wheel centerline.Does positive offset push wheels out?
You can see how a positive offset will tuck the assembly further under the fender, while a zero or negative offset pushes the wheel out towards or even past the fender.Does negative offset stick out?
Negative OffsetThe wheel will also stick out from the truck. Keep in mind that some states require fender flares to cover the width of the wheel and tire.
