Due to the higher frequencies used, DownScan sonar will provide a more detailed, almost 3D image of what is below the boat. The Lowrance LSS-2 transducer uses 3 elements (one down, one left and one right) to create a full picture of the water column (more on SideScan in a later article).
Does Lowrance hook reveal have GPS?
The Lowrance HOOK Reveal 7X SplitShot is more than just a fishfinder, mark waypoints and navigate to them thanks to the internal GPS. Even though the 7x unit does not have mapping built-in, you can create your own custom maps with ½’ contour lines with Genesis Live.
What is DownScan on a fish finder?
Downscan sonar It’s the basic system that all sounders use, it uses a colour representation to show differences in bottom structure and density and objects in the water column including fish. Using downscan you can identify things like rocky or sandy bottom, weed beds, trees and of course fish.
Do you need a special transducer for CHIRP?
Lowrance units that are CHIRP capable include all the Elite CHIRP models, all HDS Gen3 Touch models, and all HDS Gen2 units (with SonarHub). Lowrance users also don’t need to purchase a separate transducer for CHIRP, as the technology is already built in to any Lowrance skimmer transducer.
Is DownScan imaging worth it?
It’s worth it! You can see a ton of stuff with sidescan but downscan gives you more detail of individual objects.
Which is better side imaging or down imaging?
Side imaging is going to be more useful in shallower water or when you are scanning for shallow diving fish, whereas down imaging sonar is going to serve the deeper fisherman who are fishing vertically better.
Does side scan show fish?
Interestingly, side imaging also shows you schools of bait fish that will appear as a cloud or cluster of small white dots. Most brands offer side sonar imaging that shows larger individual fish as little white lines or streaks on the screen.
