What is a T4A tax form in Canada?

The Most Canadian Tax Slip, a T4A (eh?) A T4A is a catch-all slip. If an amount doesn’t go on another slip, it ends up on a T4A – Statement of Pension, Retirement, Annuity, and Other Income. Think of it as the junk drawer of slips. Instead of twist ties and half-used rolls of tape, it’s full of income and deductions.

What information do you need for a T4A?

Identification and pre-numbered boxes

  1. Recipient’s name and address.
  2. Payer’s name.
  3. Year.
  4. Box 012 – Social insurance number.
  5. Box 013 – Recipient’s program account number (15 characters)
  6. Box 016 – Pension or superannuation.
  7. Box 018 – Lump-sum payments.

Who gets a T4A in Canada?

Generally, you need to complete a T4A slip if you are a payer of other amounts related to employment, or a payer of other amounts to a self employed Business, Professional or other entity (an independent worker who is not an employee), relating to a contract for services.

Why am I getting a T4A?

You’ll receive a T4A(P): Statement of Canada Pension Plan Benefits slip if, during the year, you received benefits from either the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) or the Québec Pension Plan (QPP). This slip shows you the amount and type of the benefit(s) you received, as well as the amount of income tax deducted.

Why did I receive a T4A for Cerb?

Is the T4A still a CRA requirement in Canada?

So while completing the T4A is still a CRA requirement (and has been since 1998 I believe), it is not currently enforced. Expect this to be enforced sometime in the near future. Make it easy on yourself and implement the following practices: 1. Get their SIN or BN and address so you can actually issue a T4A slip.

Is the T4A the same as a RL 1 in Quebec?

The T4A resembles the T4 slips Canadians are used to receiving from their employers, but rather than employment income, they provide the amounts of COVID-19 benefits received from the CRA in 2020. Residents of Quebec will receive both a T4A and a RL-1 slip.
