What happens during cross-docking process?

Where does the cross docking process take place?

With this option there will be limited levels of handling and virtually no storage time. With cross docking, there will usually be a place where the process occurs. This is typically going to be a distribution docking terminal. Usually, that’s going to include trucks and doors, again with little storage space.

Which is an example of distributor cross docking?

Distributor Cross-Docking: This process consolidates inbound products from different vendors into a mixed product pallet, which is delivered to the customer when the final item is received. For example, computer parts distributors can source their components from various vendors and combine them into one shipment for the customer.

How does cross docking help reduce material handling?

Cross-docking not only reduces material handling but it reduces the need to store the products in the warehouse. In most cases, the products sent from the manufacturing area to the loading dock have been allocated for outbound deliveries.

How does the universal cross dock system work?

Our cross-dock facilities maintain a master dock schedule by time and dock for inbound and outbound shipments with standing “windows” for live unloading. Traffic flow paths are optimized for minimum travel time, reduced congestion and increased safety. Universal does not hold inventory in its cross-docks.
