How long can I get sick pay from my employer?

If you work (and aren’t self-employed), you’re legally entitled to get Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) as long as you: have started work with your employer. are sick for 4 full days or more in a row (including non-working days) or you’ve been told to self-isolate because of coronavirus.

Can my employer not pay me for sick days?

Unless required to do so under an employment contract, collective bargaining agreement, or other legally binding agreement, an employer is not required to pay employees for accrued sick time when they leave their employment.

If you’re off work sick for 7 days or less, your employer should not ask for medical evidence that you’ve been ill. Instead they can ask you to confirm that you’ve been ill. You can do this by filling in a form yourself when you return to work. This is called self-certification.

When does paid sick leave go into effect in Colorado?

Colorado’s paid sick leave law went into effect on January 1, 2021. The Healthy Families and Workplaces Act requires that all employers give paid sick leave to their employees beginning in 2022. For 2021, only employers with 16 or more employees must offer paid sick leave.
