A 1099-C form is a tax form that you may receive if you’ve had a debt forgiven. However, sometimes a creditor or debt collection company may still try to collect on a debt on which you received the form.

How do I correct a lost 1099?

To correct Type 1 errors, file the correct form with the correct amount, code, checkbox, name or address and check the “CORRECTED” box (generally located at the top of the form). Send the corrected form to the recipient and prepare the red Copy A to send to the IRS with the Form 1096 transmittal if paper filing.

When does a title company issue a 1099 MISC?

The broker would issue a 1099-MISC to an agent if the broker was paid the total commission, and then the broker paid the agent from that total that he received. If the title company pays the agent directly, the broker never receives any money to disburse to the agent.
